Paint a New Picture of You!

It’s not a mistake that we only see ourselves as a reflection in a mirror. Who we truly are comes from within and not from the outside. If you are feeling in need of a change, maybe today is the day to paint a new self-portrait.

How do most of us gauge our image? We look through the lenses of others. What they see shapes who we are. There is something wrong with that picture for sure.

Let’s think about this for a moment. Everything that we are originates inside of us. Our brain stores memories from our past. It also stores our learned behaviors like riding a bike or walking. An emotional tag is attached to each of these events. There is no possible way that another human being could have access to those brain imprints.

With that being the case, how can they look at us from the outside and tell us what we should be all about? It’s impossible. What we project comes from who we perceive ourselves to be inside. If someone doesn’t like that then they are rejecting us.

Tips for Healthy Hair!

Every year people spend hundreds of dollars to have vibrant, healthy-looking hair. Is it really necessary to break the bank in order to have lovely locks?

Every year people spend hundreds of dollars to have vibrant, healthy-looking hair. Is it really necessary to break the bank in order to have lovely locks? Having healthy hair doesn't have to be a difficult thing to achieve either. You just need to know what to do. Here are some healthy hair tips to help make your life easier without costing a fortune at the hairdresser.

The jury is still out on how often to wash your hair, but it's generally agreed that unless your hair is extremely oily, a daily washing is not necessary. In fact, washing your hair too frequently can be damaging. If you skip a day or two between shampoos, you allow your hair's natural oils to penetrate individual strands of hair.

Before washing your hair, be sure it is free of tangles. Use a natural bristled hair brush and gently brush through starting from the scalp and working all the way to the ends. This helps to distribute the natural oils to the ends of your hair, preventing split ends.

When you shampoo your hair, choose a quality shampoo with a neutral ph balance. Work the shampoo into the scalp, massaging with your fingertips rather than your nails. Using your fingernails can cause damage to your scalp leading to things like dandruff and dry scalp. Massaging your scalp will increase blood flow, resulting in healthier hair and re-growth.

Small DIY Projects You Can Do at Home

Have a Saturday with nothing to do? How about a small project to pass the time? Some people make a hobby out of creating new things for use around the house. DIY projects are all the rage nowadays and they actually can save you money in the long run.

Storage Projects

We can’t stand a naked spot on the floor or a corner in a room. So clutter gathers in very little time. Instead of purchasing expensive shelves and storage containers, look around your home and see what you can make better use of.

Baskets are visually appealing and good for other things besides sitting on a shelf in the garage. Baskets can be used to store old magazine issues we want to keep. Instead of making a messy pile on the coffee table, sit a basket beside the couch and arrange the magazines there.

Baskets also work on bathroom counters for toiletries and clean towels and washcloths. They can be kept neatly rolled up instead of folded in the closet where everyone reaches for one and pulls the rest down with it. Add a basket to the guest room for towels and other items.

Do you have old towels? Instead of throwing them away, sew them up and add elastic to the ends. Hang one in the kitchen. Those plastic shopping bags can be stored there.

In the bathroom, a towel holder can hold rolls of toilet paper. Cut the ends off of a two liter soda bottle and use the cylinder to shape the towel holder for the toilet paper. This keeps it up off the floor.

Learn to Think For Yourself!

One of the first questions an employer asks in an interview is, “Tell me about your self.” It’s the worst question in the world for most of us. We will talk about anything else except something pertaining to what we are all about.

Critical thinking is an important life skill. Sadly, it’s one that’s seldom taught anymore. Thinking has gotten lost between test scores and achievement gaps. It has been left up to life to teach us how to think and it often happens with devastating consequences.

Think For Yourself!

Critical thinking begins at an early age or at least it can begin there. Our parents impart their value system to us when they teach us right from wrong. “Don’t steal. Don’t cheat. Don’t swear.” Things like that are black and white guidelines that everybody needs.

Beyond that, there is a lot of gray area. That is where our value system is tested. Some of the things we have been led to believe hold no water here. We are left with nothing to go by to make a decent decision. So, we rely on the decision making processes of others.

Examine Your Past to Preserve Your Future

We have always been told not to dwell on the past. Looking back keeps us locked in a vicious cycle that only reminds us of our hurts. But, there is a difference between living in the past and glancing back in an effort to resolve issues that threaten a healthy future.

What is it about the past? It is a time that is finished forever. The reading of this sentence will be in the past in the next few seconds. It is not the immediate past that haunts our thoughts.

The main reason that we don’t constantly relive old events is the lack of clarity that it brings. It’s just like taking an original document and making a copy of it. Now, take that copy and run it through the machine and repeat this process over and over. Pretty soon you have an unrecognizable image that looks nothing like the original.

It is the same with our hurtful memories. Every time we reexamine them something changes. That adds to the frustration of the event. Nothing about the event will ever change but it always seems to appear worse with each thought.
